Phalaenopsis pantherina is another one of the species orchid from Sabah (Borneo) in our collection.
This orchid is also found in Sarawak as well as other parts of the Borneo Island.
Sometimes, the flower seems unreal to me as it gives a glossy and plasticky look and feel.
The flower measuring about 4 to 5 cm across also gives out fragrance.
The whole plant, lots of leaves but only 2 flowers at a time.
Sometimes less.

Phalaenopsis equestris
Phalaenopsis equestris is native of the Phillipines and Taiwan.
This orchid is very elegant and gives me the clean and serenity feeling.
Google for it and you will find a range of colors of this species - different colors of equestris
Ours is white with a yellow lip.
This orchid grows well in warm temperature so no problem in Sarawak tropical weather.
Keep it in shaded and fairly moist and it should flower anytime of the year.

Orchid from Limestone Hill - Phaphiopedilum Stonei (P. stonei)
I thought I ever posted the Phaphiopedilum stonei here but obviously not.
Well, this are old pictures from 2014 but this Phap. Stonei have been blooming quite regularly in our little orchid garden.
This species orchid is considered extremely rare and endemic to Sarawak.
Plants are found mostly on limestone hills and cliffs.
Sometimes when we drive pass some limestone hills in Bau area, we can spot this orchid plant hanging on the cliff - so near yet so far.
The leaves, sometimes about a foot long is leathery.
The flower can achieve 12cm in witdh but doesn't last that long.

Dendrobium amethystoglossum and Fire Coral
Dendrobium amethystoglossum is not a native to Sarawak.
This orchid is a native of the Philippines in the island of Luzon, pretty close to Borneo Island.
The flower is slightly fragrance.
Amethyst is for the amethyst lips of the flower :)
Is this Dendrobium fire coral?
If anyone of you know the name, do let me know. Thanks.

Angraecum Comorense - Madagascar Orchid
Wow! Its been a while and we are already sprinting into the third month of 2015!!!!
Happy Chinese New Year of the Goat! by the way.
According to the Chinese Calender, we just started year 2015....so its only the first month of 2015!....hihi....
Still, no excuse for the lack of posting.
Life goes on and we just have to give and take.
This need attention, so more time spent on "this".
That need attention, so more time for "that".
I can go on and on with "this" and "that", in the end the blogs got neglected.
Anyway, I am back today with this new posting - Angraecum Comorense.
This unique orchid originated from Madagascar.
The flower looks "plasticky" and "proud" but beautiful nevertheless.

Borneo International Orchid Show 2014
Happened to be in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah when the Borneo International Orchid Show 2014 was on late last November 2014.
We stopped by for a quick look and here are some of the photos I managed to snap during the Show. Some of the photos are not that clear due to shaky hands on a phone camera :)
▼The ever proud looking Paphiopedilum rothschildianum (First).
▼ Other slipper orchid species on show.
▼Phal. pantherina
▼Remember this one? We have this species in our little orchid garden too and I ever blog about it here - D. parthenium
▼Best Malaysian Species. A very unique orchid and my first encounter with this species.
No name seen. Do you know the name of this species?
▼Best Plant of the Show, yes no name as well. I guess it is a hybrid.
▼Several other orchids that attracted my attention but can't find the name as well.
▼Sabah Agriculture Park orchid booth/"jungle"...the Paphiopedilum rothschildianum is at the bottom left (center).
▼Panoramic view of the show (partly only).

Now Blooming - Dendrobium revolutum
Dendrobium revolutum is a species orchid.
Can be found here in Malaysia up to Thailand and Cambodia.
Long long time ago, I found our first plant up in Bintulu.
On that day, I was travelling in a car with fellow colleagues along the Miri-Bintulu Road when I noticed an orchid plant on the roadside terrace.
I remembered it was a hot hot day.
Stopped the car, got down and climb up the terrace to find this little wild orchid.
How fun was that to discover this little wild orchid like that.
Was so happy with my find.
Unfortunately that particular plant died few years ago.
This one here is another plant that DH found.
The color of the flower is lighter than the one I found.
Beautiful nevertheless and it flowers continuously.

Now Blooming - Paphiopedilum philippinense
Another exciting Paphiopedilum or slipper orchid in our collection is now blooming.
This one is called Paphiopedilum philippinense.
Found in Northern Borneo (Sabah) and as the name indicated, the Philippines.
This species orchid is an orchid collectors' dream.
The flower is very impressive as you can see here.
However, it is not easy to see this species flowering.
It's once in many many blue moons. I guess when the weather is right.
Most of the time we see lots of green shiny leaves...hehe...

Now Blooming - Dendrobium stratiotes
A native of Sulawesi and New Guinea in our collection.
Flower has two long "horns" and purple in color.
We keep it under shade but this is a warm climate orchid (sunny and rain throughout the year), so not so much problem there.
