You can get off alcohol, drugs, women, food and cars, but once you're hooked on orchids you're finished. You never get off orchids...never' Joe Kunisch, orchid growerIsn't it very true?! I am sure we are not the only one.
The intention was there for a while and tonight, finally! I took the first step to start this orchid blog.

Locally, it is known as 'Orkid Raja' (King Orchid)
They are believed to be the largest orchid species and can grow up to 8 or more feet! Ours is not as large, only about 4 feet.
Depending on your 'luck', some people planted them for more than 10 years and still no flowers.
Guess we are a bit lucky :)
We are very into wild orchids or species orchids as it is commonly known. Been into it for more than 10 years now. We used to track the nearby jungle (before the boys came along, when there were just the two of us), in search of wild exotic orchids but not anymore. Partly due to other commitment, time constraint and a little incident where I slipped and nearly fell off the limestone cliff in one of the jungle tracking trips. Now, we search for wild orchids at the markets...:D Yeah! You'll never know what you'l find there especially those "Pasar Tamu" in Sabah and Sarawak. In time, I will post pictures of these places we visited in search of the wild wild orchids!
We plant and look after our orchids in our tiny orchid garden besides the house. Hubby does all the planting and maintaining as I don't have green fingers. They say my fingers are 'too hot' for planting anything. They won't grow. So, what do I do? Well, I am the 'consultant'...hehe...I just stand around and 'consult'. Nah! I take pictures and admire the orchids and my hubby greatest supporter.....he is so lucky!
Leave you with that then.
Those are lovely! This is the second time in two days orchids have been mentioned to me. I have a houseguest whose aunt grows orchids and competes. My friend found an orchid plant in the garbage and her aunt brought it back to life for her.
